Got this one in a few days ago to check out and repair as necessary. Oiled the pivots and it took off running. Straightened the suspension spring and replaced the leather striker for the gong and that’s about all it needed at this time.

Case needed a lot of work as the old hide glue had dried out and broken loose. Took the bottom loose and glued and clamped a spot that a screw had been run in wrong splintering the edge then glued the bottom back into place.

Very top board was partially broken loose and as the entire top level of the case was held in place with 4 screws I took it off and was able to glue and clamp everything back into place.

Went to put the top back on and noticed the columns on the sides were loose, so as the next level of the case was held in with another 6 screws I took them out and was able to glue the columns and other assorted bits back into place. Put everything back together and found the front 2 screws to the very top were not pulling the front down properly so took them back out and added 2 small washers which pulled everything down firmly.  I suspect this is what caused the top to break loose in the first place.

Put the works back in and started to put the gong back and found the screw holes were too big so glued some pegs into them and then drilled small holes in them to take the screws. Got the back on and replaced 1 screw that was longer than necessary (and was the one that had gone through the bottom).

Wiped the case down with Restore A Finish and then put on a coat of Feed N Wax and am done other than getting it regulated.

Here’s a few pix –
